July Spotlight: Co-Response Services

News, SummitNews

July 15, 2024 – SummitStone Health Partners teams up with local law enforcement and emergency services to offer behavioral health support right where it is needed by embedding mental health experts within critical response teams. Called co-responders, they work alongside police and emergency teams and in schools to handle behavioral health crises. Their duties are to intervene, assess the situation and connect people with the right services. Currently, SummitStone has co-responders working closely with the Loveland Police Department, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Estes Park Police Department and even with School Resource Officers in the Thompson School District! This approach has proven to provide many benefits and improvements:

– Better crisis management and de-escalation
– Increased access to necessary services
– Decreased strain on law enforcement and healthcare systems, as evidenced by fewer arrests, detentions, emergency room visits and hospital admissions.

By embedding licensed mental health clinicians within these critical response teams, SummitStone and our partners are making a positive impact on Northern Colorado’s wellbeing.
