SummitStone Health Partners has paired a behavioral health co-responder with the Loveland-based emergency medical service, marking one of the first non-law enforcement agencies to do so.
The CARES program connects people with resources they may not have access to that help prevent further needs for service and can also refer patients to mental health programs. Paramedics sometimes respond to suicidal individuals. In addition to administering medical care to these individuals, they can also refer them to suicide prevention services or call them up routinely.
SummitStone Marketing and Development Specialist Amy Kegg said DeWalt is the first co-responder in Larimer County paired with a paramedic. So far, police departments in Loveland, Estes Park and Fort Collins all have co-responders on behalf of SummitStone, as does the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.
